People are afraid to be able to look inward.

All around us there are many different activities that encourage people to look within to find that inner self.   One thing that is known is that to do these activities the facilitator needs to divert the the attention of the 'people' participating by giving them something else to do.  A simple activity were the participants can really work along side each other but not in each others space.

Once the activity is accomplished moving onto the next phase is smoother.  Carried on through with a combined positive energy of people who have achieved one thing and therefore can achieve another thing.

So far we have used variations of the following activities with good results.  At times the results may have taken weeks to come out.  But these exercises do work.

And we have gone camping

Many people think that to 'camp' you gather up people, go out, choose a site and camp.  Then when you have had enough home you go.  Without realising there is a lot more to a camping experience than just up and going these same people become disillusioned and upset at their camp experience.

There is a lot of practice and more practice when a camp is in the planning. Skills that used to take a mew months of practice still take a few months of practice.  Then off to a designated camp site for an overnight stay working up to a camp of a few days. Basic camp skills are used.  Back at the meeting place different camp skills are introduced, worked on, practised and off we go to camp again.  This camp though has a broader camp skill and knowledge set that is based around a camp theme.

Over the years there have been so many different types of camps and actual camps have been attended with variations of themes, and leaders and participants that they will take some time to write up.  Basic camping knowledge and skills are being written about in the off to camp blog.

Crossing the road

When intending to take a group of children oven any road -at the crossing or not- there is preparation that needs to be done.  Besides being safe while crossing the road all the participants need to be accounted for.

We show our Girl Guides two steps.  The first is what most people think of when crossing the road.  This is done by through songs like the Crossing Song, acts and mimes, counting and practice.

The second part is the team work.  Preparing the Guides to make sure all the team get over in a safe manner and be accounted for.

off to the beach we would go.

Ours did not quite look like this one though.
Going to the beach has been a real adventure for the Guides as many had never been near the ocean, its waves , the sea and land creatures that were there, or even played and ran in 'real' sand pits!

Making sandcastles is an activity that when you are by the sea takes on a whole different meaning.  I'm not sure if its the sea's breeze, the weaves or even the birds squawking but having time out to help the Guides build sandcastles has really been interesting experiences.

The Guides needed to be reminded to go with care to the sea front ... and always with an adult right there with them.

The time factor took over two hours with rest [food and water]  breaks in between.

In the terms preceeding the beach adventures there were often activities , games puzzles and other things that were intertwinded into the full years program - both before and after the adventure to the beach was long over.
